In 2024, The Arabic Bible Org released the Ruach HaKodesh Updated Eli Smith - Van Dyck Arabic Bible, honoring the pioneering work of Rev. Eli Smith and Cornelius Van Dyck. This updated translation preserves their legacy of accuracy and readability, making the Scriptures accessible to modern Arabic-speaking communities.
Rev. Eli Smith (1801-1857) was a pioneering missionary, linguist, and scholar who played a crucial role in translating nearly the entire Bible from Hebrew and Greek into Arabic. Although he passed away before completing the work, his rigorous methodological standards shaped this monumental translation project. His colleague, Cornelius Van Dyck, a missionary and physician, along with a team of Arabic Muslim scholars, completed the translation in 1865. This version is known as the "Eli Smith / Van Dyck - SVD Arabic Bible," which remains in the public domain.
While deeply respecting the efforts of Smith and Van Dyck, their work reflected an unfortunate replacement of the Eternal Holy Name YAHWEH with Allah, influenced by the religious context surrounding them. Today, it is widely recognized that the names YAHWEH and Allah represent distinct, eternal identities. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we developed this corrected and updated version to exalt the glorious name of YAHWEH, YAHshuá, and the Ruach HaKodesh who abides with us until the end of the world.
As faithful Christians of the sound doctrine of the Assembly of God Church, we believe in the triune God — YAHWEH the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Drawing on nearly 40 years of Bible study and over 20 years of Greek language study, coupled with active global ministry experience on multiple continents including South America and the Caribbean (Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Colombia), North America, Europe (Germany for 4 years and neighboring countries), Africa (Nairobi, Kenya), and Asia (Iraq and Qatar). We also have active missions in Pakistan and India, and we have spent over 10 years closely engaging with Arabic. We approach this project with reverence, humility, and scholarly rigor. Leveraging authoritative Arabic grammar resources and modern computer programming techniques, we ensure textual quality, accuracy and integrity of the content that we review for the glory of YAHWEH.
Our mission is to bring divine light to Arabic-speaking Christian and Muslim communities by proclaiming the gospel: YAHWEH has a Son, YAHshuá, who came to earth, died on the cross for believers, rose from the dead, and now reigns with the Father. The Ruach HaKodesh is active on earth, convicting hearts and leading people to salvation.
"And YAHshúa came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth; Go ye therefore,
and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to
observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
— Matthew 28:18-20
Our vision is that through this work presented to God with great love, millions of souls can come to Christ by being reached by the light and truth shown and revealed to us, His people, through Moses in Exodus 3:15- 16, and that truth is that the Holy Name of Our Lord God has been and always is and will be Yahweh, which is why the Bible in Arabic must use the Unique Name of our God and no other than Yahweh, since by More than 1200 years, intentionally or unintentionally, in their desire to translate The Bible into Arabic, no one cared to keep in mind the revelation that the Bible itself contains.
The Holy Messianic Arabic Bible is a collaborative effort that honors the dedication and vision of its creators. Rev. Eli Smith laid the foundation for the original Arabic Bible translation, setting high standards of accuracy and readability. Today, their work is carried forward by a team of passionate developers and scholars, committed to preserving this legacy and making the Scriptures accessible to a new generation of Arabic-speaking believers worldwide.
